Aston Villa vs Freiburg Betting Preview – Europa League Final 2026
Welcome to SpankTheBookies’ Europa League Final Betting Preview as Aston Villa take on SC Freiburg in Istanbul on Wednesday night.
The final takes place at Beşiktaş Park and there’s a real feeling that this could be a historic night for Villa. I’ve got a bunch of mates heading over to Türkiye for the game and, unsurprisingly, confidence is sky high amongst the claret and blue support.
The current outright odds look like this:
Freiburg – 17/4
Draw – 11/4
Aston Villa – 4/6
I’ll also have full betting previews for the Champions League Final and Conference League Final coming over the next couple of weeks, so keep an eye out for those too.
Three Europa League Final BetBuilders
I’ve got three BetBuilders for Wednesday’s final, all focused around the player prop markets that have been paying well throughout this season’s European run.
The first is a 17/10 BetBuilder built around fouls won and attacking output.
The second is a 9/2 BetBuilder focused on fouls committed and goalkeeper saves.
I’m also taking a chance on Freiburg’s physical centre-forward causing problems for the Villa backline in an 11/2 double.
As always, we recommend using bet365 for these BetBuilders.
All of our selections are built around player prop markets, and bet365’s excellent ‘Sub On, Play On’ offer is perfect for this type of bet. If your selected player gets substituted, your bet simply carries on with the replacement player.
Even better, bet365 have also introduced a rule where your bets continue into extra time if the match goes beyond the standard 90 minutes — a huge bonus for cup finals like this one.

Villa Chasing European Glory Again
From the moment Villa dropped into this season’s Europa League, they always looked like the team to beat.
A huge part of that comes down to Unai Emery. The Villa boss simply owns this competition. He’s already won the Europa League four times — three in a row with Sevilla and again with Villarreal in 2021. If Villa get the job done in Istanbul, Emery will remarkably have won the Europa League five times… all with clubs containing “Villa” in the name.
Villa were excellent throughout the league phase and only missed out on top spot on goal difference. Their knockout campaign has been relatively comfortable too. Lille failed to score across two legs, Bologna were brushed aside 7-1 on aggregate, and they came through a tough semi-final against Nottingham Forest thanks largely to a huge second-leg performance from John McGinn at Villa Park.
They also arrive in Istanbul in strong domestic form. Friday night’s 4-2 win over Liverpool secured Champions League football for next season and means Villa have now won seven of their last 12 competitive matches.
There are goals all over this side right now. McGinn has scored three in his last three matches, Morgan Rogers has hit double figures for both goals and assists across the Premier League and Europa League combined, while Ollie Watkins has four goals in his last three games. Aston Villa’s number 11 looks certain to be called up to England’s World Cup squad on the back of his recent good run of form.
Villa are still without Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana, which could once again force Victor Lindelöf into a deeper midfield role.
Freiburg Dangerous But Huge Underdogs
Freiburg absolutely deserve enormous credit for reaching this final, but this does feel like a massive step up in class.
A worrying trend for the German side has been their away form against top-level opposition. Freiburg have lost all seven away matches against fellow Bundesliga top-eight sides this season, scoring just twice and conceding 20 goals in the process.
That said, they’re not here by accident and they do carry threats Villa need to respect.
One player I really like statistically is Johan Manzambi. The Swiss midfielder is brilliant at carrying the ball through pressure and constantly draws fouls. In fact, he’s the most fouled player in this season’s Europa League with 37 fouls won, and he’s been fouled 14 times across his last five Bundesliga appearances.
Villa will also need to manage Igor Matanović properly. The Croatian striker has scored 17 goals this season but the standout stat for me is actually his foul count.
Matanović commits 2.40 fouls per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga and has committed the second-most fouls in this season’s Europa League, behind only Lewis Ferguson. Up against a defender like Ezri Konsa — who is very clever at buying contact and drawing fouls — that matchup really stands out from a betting angle.
BetBuilder #1 – 17/10
Ezri Konsa 1+ Fouls Won
Johan Manzambi 2+ Fouls Won
Ollie Watkins 1+ Shot On Target
Johan Manzambi 2+ Shots
BetBuilder #2 – 9/2
Morgan Rogers 2+ Fouls Committed
Igor Matanović 2+ Fouls Committed
Noah Atubolu 4+ Saves
Emiliano Martínez 3+ Saves
BetBuilder #3 – 11/2
Ezri Konsa 3+ Fouls Won
Igor Matanović 3+ Fouls Committed
Villa look the rightful favourites and Emery’s European pedigree is impossible to ignore, but finals are rarely straightforward. Freiburg will scrap for everything and there’s definitely value in the foul markets given the profiles of some of these players.
