Europa League Gameweek 8 Preview – Value Angles & Bets

Europa League – Final League Phase Preview

Following on from yesterday’s huge success in the Champions League — with winning selections at 6.3/1 and 17.5/1 — we move on to the final round of Europa League fixtures, looking to apply the exact same logic and discipline.

After results like that, the temptation is always to get brave, chase something flashy and go hunting for a Hollywood bet. That’s never been my approach.

Yesterday worked because the process was clear and repeatable:

  1. Target games where motivated teams face sides with nothing tangible left to play for

  2. Focus on fixtures where both teams need a result

The Europa League sets up in the same way as the Champions League. There are 36 teams, with:

  • Top 8 qualifying automatically

  • Teams ranked 9–24 entering a play-off round

Qualification Landscape

At this stage:

  • Already qualified: Lyon, Aston Villa

  • Already eliminated: Sturm Graz, Rangers, Nice, Utrecht, Malmö, Maccabi Tel Aviv

That still leaves the majority of the competition with plenty to play for — even if sides like Freiburg and Midtjyllandare heavily favoured to finish inside the top eight.

Games Involving Eliminated Sides

  • Sturm Graz vs SK Brann

  • Porto vs Rangers

  • Ludogorets vs Nice

  • Celtic vs Utrecht

  • Genk vs Malmö

  • Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Bologna

Games Involving Already Qualified Sides

  • Aston Villa vs FC Salzburg

  • Lyon vs PAOK

Rather than blindly avoiding these fixtures, the angle here is simple: identify where motivation still clearly lies.

Match Angles & Reasoning

  • Sturm Graz vs SK Brann
Brann are poor travellers and come into this on a disappointing run. Sitting on nine points, a draw may be enough for them, making a safety-first approach likely.

  • Porto vs Rangers
Rangers may be out, but there is still value in coefficient points and I know this means a lot to Scottish clubs as they battle for an automatic Champions League spot for their league. Porto, however, sit around the automatic qualification line and know a win could remove the play-off risk entirely.

  • Ludogorets vs Nice
Ludogorets sit just outside the top 24 and know a draw isn’t enough. Nice are already eliminated, and Ludogorets’ motivation — combined with home advantage — is clear.

  • Celtic vs Utrecht
Celtic know a win guarantees progression. Utrecht arrive on the back of five straight defeats, and Parkhead is rarely forgiving in must-win European games.

  • Genk vs Malmö
Genk sit just outside the automatic spots and need a win. Despite some inconsistent home form, the incentive here is obvious.

  • Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Bologna
Maccabi have struggled throughout the campaign. Bologna still have a mathematical chance of pushing into the top eight but must win and hope results elsewhere fall kindly.

Bet from These Matches

  • SK Brann – Win or Draw

  • Ludogorets – Over 1.5 Team Goals

  • Celtic – Win

  • Genk – Win

  • Bologna – Win

Price: 5.75/1 with bet365

This follows the same principle as yesterday — motivated sides, clear incentives, and sensible pricing.

Using bet365 is recommended because they offer ‘Early Payout’ - if your team goes 2 goals ahead your selection is settled as a winner irrelevant of what happens after that.

Games Where Both Teams Need a Result

For the main bet of the evening, I’m again focusing on fixtures where a draw may not be enough for either side, which naturally leads to higher attacking intent — especially late on.

  • Betis vs Feyenoord

  • Stuttgart vs Young Boys

  • Red Star vs Celta Vigo

There’s little reason for any of these teams to sit back and protect a 0–0. Wins matter, and that usually brings goals, corners, and discipline issues as pressure builds.

Referee Appointments

  • Nikola Dabanović (Betis vs Feyenoord) – 4.00 cards per game

  • Andrea Colombo (Red Star vs Celta Vigo) – 4.44 cards per game

  • Javier Alberola Rojas (Stuttgart vs Young Boys) – 3.92 cards per game

That further supports a cards-based angle alongside goals and corners.

Main Bet – Thursday Evening

  • Over 2.5 Goals in all three games

  • Over 8 Corners in all three games

  • Both Teams to Receive a Card in all three games

Price: 26.8/1

That’s slightly bigger than yesterday’s winning bet and follows the same blueprint.

Speculative Alternative

For those looking for a higher-risk angle, swap Both Teams to Receive a Card for:

  • Red Card in the Match – Yes (all three games)

Price: 1529/1

Very high risk, but in high-stakes European games, chaos does happen.
